Past Years: The Wangaratta club was formed in 1951 largely by migrants new to the area keen to continue this sporting passion from their homelands. Initially the club comprised of a single senior team which travelled and played against teams from Albury, Wodonga, Shepparton and Bonegilla. Sometimes the team travelled together to & from games in the back of someone's old ute! The club played for many years in the Victorian North East Soccer league which was based in Shepparton. During the 1970’s the club made application to and were accepted into the Albury Wodonga Soccer Association. This move allowed them to expand the junior teams within the club, and was geographically much more in centre of our region.

Today: Things have changed somewhat since then with the club now having two separate competitions being held each winter. One is a local Saturday junior competition for 5-13 year olds which in 2005 attracted around 175 children. The other is a Sunday home & away competition which is formed of 13 representative teams that play in the AWFA league. This league comprises of 12 teams from Albury & Wodonga, Myrtleford, and Wangaratta.

The Future: Soccer is currently the fastest growing junior sport in Australia. Our club encourages all players to develop through skills training and team play. Benefits are both physical and intellectual by improving coordination, fitness, social interaction and self esteem. Through AWFA junior players are provided with the opportunity to extend to a variety of regional and state representative levels, and have access to advanced coaching academy programs.
